Tongariro Crossing

The adventure seeker in me just couldn't resist the opportunity to see some of New Zealand's most breath-taking views along the Tongariro Crossing. This trek is in the Tongariro National Reserve and it is quite an experience. The trek itself is about 7-8 hours and there are many side treks you can take along the way. We were supposed to do the entire trek in a day and it would have been just fine had we not climbed Mt. Ngauruhoe..or Mt. Doom(from the Lord of the Rings). However, one of our leaders thought we would/should have no trouble climbing this mountain (see photo above) and get off the trek in time. However, it did not turn out that way and thus begins the adventure...

We started out on a beautiful, crisp Monday morning. It was absolutely great. We were bundled up and ready to go. In the above picture you can even see Mt. Eggmont ever so faintly in the background. It was really the perfect weather for our hike and we all knew it. We got off to a good start.

A couple hours into the trip we were at the base of Mt. Ngauruhoe. One of our leaders had climbed this mountain many times (though a number of years ago) and really wanted us to climb it as well. In all honesty, I should have said,"no." I knew we had a long way to go and I knew he was being a bit optimistic with his time estimation for the mountain, that being 1-2 hrs, but I didn't have the heart to say no and disappoint him. So we did it. It was the hardest thing I think I've ever done. We climbed 600 metres (free climb) up the summit of this Mountain and then had to practically ski down on rock, with no skis or snow.

I conquered the mountain and made it back down alive and to be honest, I am quite proud of myself. But by this point we were only 1/3 of the way through the crossing! We had a long way to go to finish and before dark. We knew that we needed at least one person to make it out on time so that the bus company would not send the rescue out to find us. We sent Matthew on ahead, he did just that, he got out and went to town to get the car to come back and get the rest of us. At this point I was still optimistic about getting off the trek on Monday night. I went on ahead with Louise and we kept a steady pace to the hut where we were to wait for for Peter, Allen , and Sasha.

The sunset Monday night before Loise and I reached the hut.

We arrived at the hut just after dark, we made the decision that it was not going to be safe to continue 2.5 more hours in the dark, through the bush. So we talked with the park ranger and got permission to stay the night at the hut without a problem.
Peter, Allen and Sasha agreed that we should not continue and we were able to get a hold of Matthew via weak cell phone coverage and let him know the situation and so he could let our friends and family, who were now expecting us home, that we were ok, but coming home the next day.

Tuesday morning we woke up and got an early start to get off the Crossing, however, because I really didn't sleep and Mt. Doom had killed my already twisted right knee, and "sleeping" in unmovable positions after a 12 hour hike...my muscles were shot! I felt like the tin man! In fact my right knee was so bad that about 40 minutes into day 2, I could hardly walk! It was by God's strength that I made it out. I am very thankful for for Peter's quiet strength and encouragement that helped me continue and for Louise helping me to laugh at the beginning of the day to get me going. I'm also thankful that Allen let me use his trekking pole (looks like a ski pole) to finish up the hike. I guess the most frustrating thing about this for me was I am not used to going as slow as I had to on Tuesday. Had I not twisted my knee, I would have been fine but I guess I needed to be humbled, and the knee is what did it. I think that is what made this trip so difficult for me.

Anyway despite the difficult circumstances, I had many highlights along the way...
First, actually reaching the top of Mt. Ngauruhoe

Second, getting to know my dear friend Louise even better.

Third, seeing the beautiful Emerald Lakes surrounded by clouds/mist.

Fourth, the generosity we experienced from a family staying at the hut, who had extra hot food for us on Monday night.

and Fifth, God watching over us in every circumstance through the entire trip. I learnt that you don't really know how strong you are and what your body is capable of doing until it is pushed to the max and truly in need of God's physical strength to keep going.

I have many more stories and pictures from this trip that wont fit here, so if you want to see or hear more about it, then just drop me an e-mail or comment and I will send on more details. Trust me, these photos don't do justice to the beauty of of God's creation that we saw, it was absolutely Magnificent.

me, book, cell free

Tonight I skipped netball. I have not had a night in weeks that I spent any time home really. I have been on the go every minute...or so it seems. Obviously, by my own choice because I Could say, "no" sometimes, but I'm not very good at that. Anyway, I stayed home and made dinner and enjoyed doing it. I took my time cooking, being particular, not rushed. Then I sat down and ate slowly. I was not in a hurry to do anything or be anywhere. This was relaxing and refreshing. After a bit I did leave to go read in my spot at Starbucks down in Mission Bay. However, I did not bring my phone. It was me, my book, and cell free. It was such a relief not to have it with me for just a bit. No coffee tonight though, just juice...I didn't want to keep my mind going and going all night:)

When I came home..there was a message: "Hi Sara, would you bring two pieces of KFC chicken and a soft drink, I'll pay you later." I had no idea who sent it and the first thought that went through my head was,
"Where in the world was I supposed to be tonight?" For the life of me I couldn't think of any place and I didn't recognize the number. Then my flatmate said that it was her. Well, sorry she didn't get her KFC but at least I hadn't forgotten where I was meant to be. Today was a strange day after the craziness of yesterday, but I needed a night like tonight. I know the Lord has me in the shelter of His wings.

Grace

Tonight, I need grace. It was one of those days today where nothing seemed to go right. I was up early and had myself together and ready and out the door in plenty of time, but after that, it all went down hill. Last night, I was relishing in the fact that God allowed me to spend time with some dear friends and tonight, I'm claiming grace because I let some other dear friends down. The "have-it-all-together" girl did not have it all together tonight. As hard as I tried to be responsible, it backfired. I feel awful for letting my friends down, but I know that they will understand that sometimes life just doesn't fall into place how it should.

Last year at the end of the year, I had a sort of melt down moment where I just couldn't take it anymore...well this year, it happened at the end of the first term! Today after school I was a basket case. I had had enough of the nonsense and stupid behavior of some of my students. They had pushed me over the edge. I did not break down in class, but as soon as the kids were out and I was in my office, God and I had some choice words. Again, bringing me to the need for grace. I was so angry! I don't get really angry that often, but I was livid. I pray that if anyone asks me to do something I should do, I never say, 'no' and do the opposite just to spite him. I know God is teaching me about loving difficult people and I know that for God to love us seems incomprehensible. I do love many of my students, even some of the cheeky and naughty ones. However, I have a hard time loving defiant students who do everything in their power to make teaching that class impossible.

I am being incredibly honest in this post because I think you need to know that as much as I enjoy living life to the fullest in NZ and being where God has lead me to be, life is not always easy. I stand, sit, run, and cry, begging for God's grace to cover me.

Though my day was difficult, it did end well. I spent the evening with the Bowlin and Dunn families. Rebecca Bowlin just had a baby and I was finally able to go spend a little time with them. As I sat on the couch reading, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" to two precious little girls and holding a six day old precious child in my arms. I was blessed. I felt like God looked down on me and knew I needed joy, so He showered it down abundantly. I am so thankful for His grace.

My day is now coming to a close and I just finished running down by the water to clear my mind before facing tomorrow. I pray that His love overflows out of me and that He takes the frustration away.

Life, Love, and People

Tonight I went to an art exhibition for a dear friend and then out for coffee and long talks. It was good. That seems like such a simple description for time spent investing in relationship, but honestly, it was good. Good for my schedule(spontaneous), good for my heart, and good just to hear others process through life and be whatever encouragement I can be.

Life, Real Life, isn't about going to work everyday. It's not about making phone calls, organizing schedules, it's not about making sure life is "running like a well-oiled machine." Life is about taking one day as it is, a gift from God, and giving it back to Him as an offering of worship through living each moment as it happens. Sometimes life does make sense and sometimes it does go smoothly, but other times we wonder how life could be more confusing or complicated. Our only choice is to live it and accept the grace that gives us the ability enjoy the good days and learn from the confusing and complicated ones.

Mmmm...loving others well and demonstrating the love of Christ, this is what I love. I am a 'relator" meaning that I enjoy knowing people and knowing them well enough to love them well. I had an opportunity to do that tonight and it brings a smile to my heart.

Living each day full of the life and love of Christ in order to grow the Kingdom and bring honor to God, the giver of Life. Now this is a challenge that will take a lifetime:)

Laugh at Life

During the recent camping trip I went on, we forgot a towel to dry our dishes..not a big deal really. We had fun cracking ourselves up as we waved the dishes in the wind to dry them, it's good to laugh at yourself sometimes:)

Today...

I woke up and an insanely early hour because I forgot to change my clock back:)
I showed up at church an hour early and wondered where everybody was..haha
I went to the home above the church and made blueberry muffins for the family that lives upstairs, which they thought was so weird to have for breakfast, but they like my silly American ways:)
I listened to a sermon filled with Scripture that was refreshing for my heart.
I went with my friend Christine to visit her mum and sing for her.
I went to a baby shower to celebrate and lavish a mother/friend expecting her second daughter
I taught Sunday school at Cession for the first time
I went to Starbucks to read, journal, listen and just be.
I met an amazing woman at Starbucks, who with her husband are missionaries with a non-denom. org. focused on Disciipleship!!
I lived today fully for what it was, a gift and opportunity to worship with my life.

Life

In the past weeks...

Easter weekend: Celebrating the death and resurrection of Christ with my church family. Camping, kayaking, snorkeling, and living life to the fullest with my friend Joanne.

School: Choir going pretty good, most of my classes are going well. I'm learning how to just keep going, even when I am frustrated. Next week I have musical auditions all week, I'm praying that they go well.

NZ: I've applied for a new visa to stay in NZ for another year. I am living one day at a time by faith, knowing that God will bring it at exactly the right time. The one I have now expires on the 19th. Much of my prayer life is focused on this right now as you can imagine. I love NZ and I love living here, though I miss my family and friends, I know this is where God wants me to be.

Church: Still at Redoubt North and Cession Community. Recently, I've taken on leading worship at Redoubt North, which has been huge. I knew God was wanting me to refine my guitar skills and use that to worship Him. So, I'm learning. It still makes me nervous to play and sing in front of people, but it's ok. The more I do it, the better it goes. Cession Community just celebrated the baptism of Rebecca Vaughn. Rebecca is part of the cell group I'm a part of and it's been wonderful getting to know her over the past months. I am thrilled that she has made the decision to live her life for Christ.

Discontentment: I am longing to see the Kingdom grow! I am not content right now. Yes, I teach in a difficult place, where my students and co-workers need to know Christ and I do my best to show Him to them. But my heart is longing for discipleship, not just my own growth as a disciple but helping others to know Christ as well. My heart is broken for my generation here, they(we) need Christ. In effort to move in this direction, I've started playing netball with a group of people I know through a friend at school. I pray that the Lord allows Himself to be seen through me as I get to know these people and enjoy learning a new sport.

Well, I think that pretty much sums up life right now.

Netball

Just a quick post this morning:) Last night I played my first intramural game of netball. I was really nervous at first, but I had lots of fun. It's a bit of a challenge to not get the rules confused with basketball. In netball, you can't dribble the ball and you can only pass to certain people depending what position you are playing. Also when defending you have to stay like a meter way from the attack(offense). I'll fill you more on netball once I play more and keep learning:)

Living in limbo or Living by Faith

Every now and again I feel like I am living in limbo, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing, where I'm going, or what I should be doing. I know that I'm not actually living in limbo, I'm actually living by Faith. Because I know that Jesus is the Lord of my life, I know that my life and circumstances are all in His hands and plans. I do not need to worry about what's happening tomorrow. I just need to focus on what's happening today. Hebrews 11:1 Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see. I am certain that God is in control right now, even through I feel like I have no clue about what's happening around me.

Tonight I was having coffee with a good friend who reminded me to live with the eyes of faith. Live as though Christ is going to intervene and make a way. She reminded me about Moses as he was called upon to lead the Israelites. Little did she know that God has spoken to me in so many ways through the life of Moses.

I am also reminded of Peter, who had to step by faith as he stepped out of the boat, onto the water, towards Jesus. Right now I must keep stepping toward Jesus one day at a time. Each step by faith, knowing that He is who He says He is, I am who He says I am, He can do what He says He can do, I can do all things through Christ, and His Word is alive and active in me. I need to get back out of the boat again and try out my sea legs a bit more.

Muriwai Beach

Last week I went out to Muriwai beach and I posted some photos earlier. I made a video of the pictures that I took so that you can watch the sun go down from one photo to the next. It turned out really cool. Enjoy.

"perfect" day

So last night I was sorting out my day today and what had to be done today and what time would be the best time to do everything. I decided that it would take an hour and a half get groceries for camping, go get a tarp and mallet for the tent, and buy a wedding gift. I was right, it took exactly an hour and a half and I was quite pleased with myself:)

Then I had planned to come home, wrap the gift, get ready, head off and stop at my house on the way to pick up a few things I would need for camping that I left behind yesterday..(I'm house sitting but leave to go camping Sunday arvo) Anyway, I go to wrap the gift and find a large gouge in it under the price tag! Sad day! So I went back to the store exchanged it for another one, at the same time forgetting to bring the wrapping paper with me and now I wasn't going have time to go back, I had to just keep going and stop along the way. Ok, so now I had my wrapping paper, tape, and a scissors and I was ready to go. Got home, got ready for the wedding, wrapped the gift, went to fill out the card and realized I had left it on the table where I was going to wrap the gift in the first place at the other house! Good grief! If I wasn't annoyed already, I was now. So now I head off to the wedding, still totally excited for Todd and Julia and trying to forget about my little mishaps along the way.

Now, I'm on my way into the chapel and the carpark driveway is on a slope, not a problem...unless there is also a step in the middle of the parking lot not marked with any indication of there being a step. In fact, there was a normal white line just indicating the boundaries of the the parking space. Needless to say I did not see the step because I thought it was just part of the slope. So what did Sara do? Well, she fell. Yes, on my way into the wonderful celebration for my dear friend, I rolled my ankle and ripped my knees to shreds. Far be it from me to tell anybody what I had just done....except for the three people who saw me fall of course. I just decided to pray that I would not have blood running down my legs during the wedding!! O my word..I think this would only happen to me. Obviously the first place I went after the wedding was to get bandages for my knees. Now I am finally where I need to be, sitting on the couch with a pack of frozen veggies on my ankle/foot and totally determined to still go camping/kayaking tomorrow. I will have to cut the snorkeling because I would rather not attract any sharks with the open wounds on my knees, but I should be ok if I stay in the kayak.

Right, so lesson of the day, you can't plan a perfect day, you just have to let your day be perfect. The wedding was beautiful and I wouldn't have missed it, even if I had broken my foot..praise the Lord, I didn't:)

Good Friday

This season is leaving me with a different feeling from other years. I think I'm beginning to actually understand more of the sacrifice Christ faced, the aloneness He felt, what it might have felt like to wash Judas's feet, knowing as He prayed that the will of the Father would come to fulfillment in Him, walking to Calvary knowing that He would soon have nails driven through His wrists and ankles. I am overwhelmed to put it simply. I can't grasp what kind of love would make someone do this. I have known Jesus for a long time and I have celebrated His birth and Resurrection many times. However, I think this might be the first year I truly mourn His death. My heart is hit to the core with the love that Christ showed and the pain He had to endure in order to reconcile my sin.

checkin in

Life is crazy...life is unknown...life is leaving me with lots of questions. But one thing I do know is that God is in control. No circumstance is beyond His control, no surprise is a surprise to Him, no obstacle is too big. So I guess right now the most obvious thing for me to post is one of the ways I experience His never ending, amazing Love. The Sunset.

Beautiful Weekend

Finally, we've had a weekend of beautiful weather! The past two Saturday's in a row have been really wet, but yesterday and today were absolutely gorgeous! Saturday, I went with a group of friends to check out a new site for the Ignite, Wesleyan youth camp next year. We'll see what happens, but I think it's a great spot. Later in the arvo, Sarah Williams came over for the weekend. We went to a concert Saturday night and then out to the beach to watch the stars for a while. We had a great time and a late night:)

Sunday we went up to Shore Grace because Sarah wanted to see her friend Joliet and I wanted to catch up with my friend Serina. I enjoyed the service very much. My mentor Julia preached on the last prayer of Jesus, the moment He felt alone because He didn't want me to be forsaken. This message was a powerful message of the depth of Christ's love. After church, Sarah, Joliet and I headed off the Long Bay for the rest of the afternoon. It was the best day at the beach!

Tonight, when asked how I was, I could honestly say, "great." All my planning is up to date, ERO assessment is finished, paperwork is all finished. I realize this feeling isn't going to last long, so I decided to cherish it this weekend. I lived to the fullest and treasured spending quality time with people.

note: half the pics won't post, so I'll have to edit it later and add a couple more photos:)

Music

Tonight I had a wonderful opportunity to get away and sing for just a bit. It was such a blessing. If you would have told me even a year ago, that I would be able to play guitar well enough to use it in worship, I would have said, "I wish." Over the years, I have not had much success with instruments. I sing well enough, but I've never really been able to use instruments to praise the Lord. I am so thankful that the Lord has been teaching me the discipline to learn this instrument. I am not by any means, a great guitar player yet, but I'm able to enjoy the instrument and enjoy using it to praise HIM. What a gift it was to sit, play, sing, worship, and just be.

Just Chillin'

Hmm...Well it's only about 10:10 on Wednesday night and I'm just chillin' in my bed surfin' the blogsphere because I can't sleep. I know it's not that late but considering I have to teach in the morning, I'd like to sleep:) Today was a big day and I have a ton on my mind. The Education Review Board does a review of the school every three years. This year is that year for our school, which puts a ton of pressure on everybody. I had someone come into my room to observe me teach for about a half hour, she seemed to be writing a lot down so I wonder a bit what she was writing. I also picked a show to do with the students and ordered it today. I'll do the reveal of the show when I can think more clearly to describe it accuratetly:) Tonight, I spent much of the evening working on music preparations for Easter. I am finally going to have the opportunity to share the gift of music with the Body of Christ again and use my gifts in a way that I feel brings honor to His name. Not that teaching music doesn't, but I just enjoy singing so much and the Lord has graciously given me the discipline to learn guitar well enough to accompany myself and lead others. I'm still a bit nervous, but I'm really excited as well. My mom suggested using the song, "How Beautiful" by Twila Paris and I love that song, I find myself singing it often. I love how she knows exactly how to help me use the gift of music in a way that glorifies the Lord. Some of my favorite memories in the whole world are of the two of us singing together at the piano, in our living room, singing hymns and duets and everything in between. We would sing just to sing and sing to worship and sing because it filled us with the joy of the Holy Spirit. Also on my mind, is the renewal of my visa. I know God is going to make a way for me to stay here because this is where He wants me right now. it's just that everything He's doing is so far beyond my understanding that all I can do is sit and wait. Ok, maybe I've written enough now and helped my mind settle down. Hopefully I'm signing off to catch some Zzzzzz....:)

Post as Promised

Well, yesterday I promised to post about school and ministry today...so here it goes.

Tomorrow the education review board comes to school to do an assessment for three days. This puts a ton of stress on everybody. I'm not exactly sure what to expect but I'm doing my best to stay calm. Choir started last week, and the first rehearsal went ok, I'm hopefully going to have an aid in the classroom with me. Let's just say, the circumstances are not ideal. After my first rehearsal, I was asked to change the time of rehearsals. Frustrating because I handed in my timetable the second week of school. My general classes are going pretty well with the exception of two Year 8 classes. I'm enjoying teaching the ukulele and I'm looking forward to getting the APOPS program started in week six.

CIA on friday went really well and we had a great group of students come along for the afternoon. Something I'm really excited about this year is teaching the kids about the Bible. We are going on a "Journey through Israel" with the kids and teaching them about the different places Jesus walked and taught. One thing I'm working on is teaching them the books of the Bible. We are using trading cards and the kids are going to have to put them all in order and trade with each other in order to get all of them. I finally feel like we are feeding them something of depth. I think the lessons and activities this year are going to be much more intentional about teaching the kids about Jesus and about the Bible. Last year was good but I think it was more relationship building. Redoubt North has also just started, "9:45 Live" which is a kid focused service on Sunday morning before more adult focused service at 10:15. This is all really exciting and I'm praying that God really blesses this new step toward impacting this community.

Power Blog

It's been a while since I've been able to post a really informative blog. So I'll do my best to catch up on life in New Zealand. I've been back in NZ for just over a month now and I feel like I never really left. I have established life here, I am still learning and always meeting new people, but life feels 'normal' here. Recently, I've been able to catch up with friends here and spend time investing in peoples' lives as well as know others are investing in me. God really has blessed my relationships and I am incredibly thankful.

Two weeks ago a girl from Buffalo, NY came to visit for almost two weeks. Her name was Rachel and she is a friend of one of my friends here in NZ. My friend Joanne and I took here down to the Waitomo caves to go black water rafting. This involves taking a large black inner-tube down into a cave and riding through the river and jumping off a couple small waterfalls, IN THE DARK!! Yes, we had head lights, but they don't really help much. We had tons of fun..and if any of you want to come to NZ and go black water rafting, I better be the first person you call;)

This past week Ferne and I went to the APO (Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra) concert. It was absolutely wonderful! I miss being surrounded by quality music. Not only was the concert wonderful musically, it was music that I was familiar with. They did an entire concert of American theme music and they had an American Conductor as well. The concert started out with Copland's, "Fanfare for the Common Man" then Jonathan Besser's, "Three Hudson River Pieces." Besser now lives in New Zealand and was present at the performance. This was also the premier performance of these pieces written for full orchestra, as they were originally written for chambers or ensembles. Next came the ever loved Gershwin and his "Rhapsody in Blue," also the full orchestra version along with an amazing pianist. Just beautiful. After the interval, we heard Dvorak's "Symphoy No. 9 (From the New World)." When I was in High school I fell in love with Dvorak's music. When I saw all of these composers in one concert, I knew it was a must see, well hear actually:) What an inspiring night and such a blessing. Not only was the music inspiring but the conductor was as well, his name was Christian Knapp. I enjoy watching conductors who look like they love what they're doing. This man rivaled Dr. Guy from IWU as he danced on the podium, Prof. is still my favorite, but Mr. Knapp is definitely on the list of wonderful conductors.

Today, was a nice, restful and relaxing day. I had coffee with two friends, Joanne and Annie. We enjoyed spending the afternoon together, then went to Annie's for tea, her aunt Beth made some wonderful pizza. We enjoyed dinner with Jeff and Beth Fussner. I can't tell you how encouraging it is to spend time with people who love God and love to tell stories of his faithfulness. We all had great stories to tell!

Ok, I think I'll end this post now. I'll do another one tomorrow focused on what's happening at school and in ministry.

Quick Post

Just checking in for the week...it's been crazy! On the Praise List: medical check-up for new visa finished, X-ray complete, blood work-complete. I am healthy! the only thing that needs adjustment in my iron level, which makes my blood count a little low right now, but I'll start eating some more spinach:) The doctor said I should be fine to receive my new visa, Praise the Lord! CIA this week Friday..expecting it to go well and God will be glorified. My eye is healing and feeling much better from the stye I had in it last week-Praise the Lrod!

Prayer list: ERO-education review board is coming to school next week! A bit stressful! Visa application is processed quickly, I need to prioritize life a bit better, and school in general. Thank you for your prayers!!!

Sunshine on a rainy day

Today was rainy all day! That doesn't really happen that often and honestly, we needed the rain. At least it wasn't ultra windy and rainy. We had the wind yesterday. Despite it being a yuck day outside, I found myself in a coffee shop agian...surprise! I was reading/writing/studying for a bit in the afternoon. As I was at Gloria Jean's (name of the coffee shop) there was a little polynesian boy who was playing the silly face game with me. He was absolutely adorable! He was probably 3yrs. old and way too cute. He would run around the corner and see how close he could get to me before I'd look up, then he'd make a silly face, smile, and run off. I loved it. He had super curly hair and the biggest, cutest smile ever! This went on for about forty minutes...haha. This little boy was just the right kind of sunshine on this rainy Saturday in Auckland:)

Universal Gospel

Today I was sitting in Boarders reading children's books. I like to sit, read, and relax every now and then. Today I had just met with my mentor and dear friend Julia and decided to take some time to read for a bit as well. I read one of my favorites that I haven't read in a long time, "The Giving Tree" by Shel Siverstein. I enjoy being reminded of the selfless love of the tree. The tree wants nothing more than the happiness of the boy. She gives everything she possibly can so that he can be successful and have a "good' life. In the end, the boy comes back and just sits with the tree. The tree is finally happy herself because she is with the boy.

I am reminded of my relationship with my Lord and Savior. He left His home in glory to come live among us, so that one day we could be reunited with Him in that glory. But in the meantime, so often I ask for blessing, and happiness, and a "good" life. Christ is not so much focused on my happiness, like the tree for the boy, but enjoys blessing me to bring glory back to His Father in heaven. Because of this undeserved love and grace beyond measure, I am allowed to live in communion with the Lord here, but even more, I will be allowed to live in His presence and just sit with Him in heaven. The joy that fills my heart just thinking about that day cannot even compare to the Joy of the Lord when all His children are restored unto Him and with Him in glory.

Next, I read, "Glass Slipper Gold Sandal" by Paul Fleischman and Julie Paschkis. This is the Cinderella story told through the different cultures of the world. It takes the story through Iraq, Indonesia, Japan, India, Zimbabwe, Scandinavia and more. The pictures change from page to page to depict the culture at each point in story. This is probably one of the coolest books I've ever seen! I sat there in Boarders reading this Cinderella story with a huge grin on my face...the whole time I was taking in the cultural diversity of the story and the beauty of it, I was thinking about How the Gospel is even more cross cultural than a simple fairy tale. The Gospel of our Lord is Universal! Not just Jewish, Hebrew, Greek, or even English (as I know it). The Gospel transcends every culture. Praise the Lord! I could probably go on and on but I don't think I really need to. I'm just thankful that I serve a Lord that came to bring reconciliation and salvation for all who recognize and have faith in Him.

Not My Own Ability

I can do nothing on my own. Yes, the Lord has gifted each of us with talents and abilities, still I can do nothing on my own. I cannot trust my own expertise, I cannot trust my own ability, I cannot trust my own responsibilty even...I can do nothing but dig myself in deeper. UNLESS...Christ is at the core of it all.

Right now I am figuring out how I'm going to stay in New Zealand. I working through visa/work permit applications and procedures. I'm getting incredibly overwhelmed with it all! I don't see how it's going to happen..yet in my heart I hear the voice of truth saying, "I will make a way, where there seems to be no way!" I am desprate need of your prayers for peace, quick processing and patience. This may seem like an odd combination of prayer requests, I know. However, I need the peace that passes all understanding to affirm the Lord's calling on my life here in New Zealand, I need the application process for new visa/permit to happen in swift fasion, which is not common with any government. I need to be patient with myself and the circumstances that I'm in, in order to continue living one day at a time.

I am fully confident the Lord's ability and His faithfulness, please just pray that my heart and mind connect with these issues and I can be actively living by faith in Christ.

Some funnies at my expense:)

"Miss...You got punked!"

So I've been playing a rhythm game with my year sevens, they have to come up with a rhythm that has the same number of beats as they have syllables in their names. We go around the circle twice, the first time we all just do our own, the second time you have to start from the beginning of the circle and do everybody's name up to your own. By the end of the the game, I have to say everyone's name in order. Ok, seems simple enough, and it really help all of us to learn names. Until I had two boys get a little tricky. I was so focused on remember names at the beginning of the circle that I didn't see them switch places. When I got to Eli (who was really Patrick) everyone started to chuckle...he was like, "Miss, I'm Patrick." I said, "No your not your Eli because your sitting in the second to last seat! (I memorize in order) Then I realized they had switched seats, we all started laughing, then one student shouts out, "Miss, you got punked!" Let's just say, I lost it, I was laughing so hard and so was the whole class. Thankfully we were able to get class back on track and we kept going.

Got Ice??

So tonight I was on my way home from Bible study and I really wanted some ice. I know this is random, but love me anyway please. I decided that I'd stop in at Subway and get a drink so I could fill the cup up with ice..they were closed. I kept heading home then I decided to go just past my road to the petrol station to get some ice...they were closed too! By this point, I was annoyed, so I kept going to another spot that I knew would be open (totally out of my way home). I got there, and they didn't have any ice!!! I was like, "Are you kidding me?" So I settled for some kiwifruit flavored water and went home. No ice, the end.

School Update

I suppose it's time for a school update:) Overall, I think school is going well. I am excited to get going with the new year sevens. I think they are going to do a fine job this year. I haven't had too many major problems with them so far. My year eights on the other hand have issues with way way way too much talking. They don't hear the direction because they are too busy using their mouths instead of their ears. The primary unit I'm doing with year seven in Ukulele. I am also incorporating singing, some theory, and some listening into each lesson. With my year eights, I am using the guitar instead of the uke, but continuing with the singing, theory, and listening. My class periods are still long blocks, so I'm getting used to breaking up the class period with different activities. We're finishing up our second week of school this week and getting well along into the school year. I'll keep you up to date with what's what in the music room in the upcoming weeks as more music programs get going.

Thames, Coromandel, and Kauaeranga Vally

My latest random adventure was a day trip to Thames, Coromandel and the Kauaeranga Vally. The above picture is a taken from a scenic lookout while driving through the Coromandel Peninsula. The views were continually breathtaking! I was only a couple hours from Auckland but it felt like I was in the jungle. You can see that in the picture below:)

My friend Joanne and I decided to go for a day trip. I enjoy random day trips like this emensly. We started out by going to the Kauaeranga Vally because we were going to a "pool" in the middle of the bush. It's not actually a pool like you would think, it's a spot in the river where the water pools up, great for swimming and jumping off rocks. I didn't get my nerve up to jump this time, but I think I will next time.

After swimming for a while, we went for a bit of a drive down a long gravel road then a short walk and we came to the bridge in the above picture. So Cool! The water was really low at this point in the river, but the swing bridge was great fun.

Then it was off to Thames for lunch, where we found our favorite Subway:) After that, we drove up the coast for about an hour enjoying the beautiful landscape, until we arrived in Coromandel. We drove up into the hills a bit to take in the sights and enjoy God's absolutely amazing creation, then we started on our way back home. This day was truly great and I know why i enjoy spending quality time with people outdoors....it's always an adventure!

Food for thought

God is still teaching me about faith, His faithfulness, and trusting His faithfulness. Today, I read this quote from the study, "Living Free" by Beth Moore.

"Christ isn't asking us to believe in our ability to exercise unwavering faith. He is asking us to believe that He is able."

This is a huge idea to process. I find so much hope in it. Recently, there have been countless times when I know God is teaching me something, but I must plead for Him to increase my faith. I know that He is able to do whatever He wants or chooses to do, I also know that He does what He says He will do. At the same time, it's like God is trying to get my head knowledge to connect with faith in my heart in order to sincerely believe Him. Anyway, that's what I've been chewing on today.

On a more light-hearted note, I was able to go to the beach today with my friend Joanne. We had a wonderful time relaxing in the sun and swimming. Joanne and I also decided to be accountability partners to encourage each other and grow in our spiritual walks. I feel very blessed by her friendship. My dear friend Julia also celebrated her engagement today and it was a joy to go celebrate with her. Today was a wonderful holiday. I'm headed back to school to finish up the week tomorrow and friday.

Math Test What?!?

So today we had our day of meetings to start off the new school year. It was going fine until....Maths! (Math is called Maths here) Mr. Horan pulled out a maths test that we all had to take. I was horrified! For all of you who don't know, I avoid math like the plague. There probably isn't anything in the world I like less than math. Well, it wasn't too bad and I survived but I didn't like it. There is a reason I teach music, math is not my strong point. I know plenty for living everyday life, but I would not want to teach math at the intermediate or secondary level ever. I stick with music thank you very much. Well, that's the news for the day. Oh and my luggage finally came for those who read the the drama post about my trip over here. I'm very thankful that it arrived as it has some of my teaching resources in it. School starts next week, so I'm gearing up and trying to get focused. Peace out everyone.

Psalm of the Day

Psalm 32 is my Psalm of the Day today. Verse 8 hit my heart and made it sing for Joy! I know this Scripture has been lived out in my life in so many ways and it will continued to be displayed in all I do. How do I know this? Simply because it's about what God does and He is alway faithful.

The Lord says, "I will guide you along the best path for your life. I will advise you and watch over you."

The Lord has done this day after day, in every circumstance that comes my way. Sometimes I don't see it at the time and wonder where God is at work, but deep down I know this Scripture reigns true.

Chicago with Kelly

Well this post is past due but still so worth mentioning. The week before coming back out to NZ I went to Chicago with my dear friend Kelly. We met up for two days and totally made the most of our time in the absolutely freezing city! We had some much needed girl-talk time at Starbucks and shopped till we dropped, then took great pics at the giant bean in Millennium park. Here are some fun photos from our trip.

This one is my favorite of us being silly girls.

Isn't that moon beautiful!? I love it!

Kelly and I decided we wanted to go to church on Sunday night, so we went to this one. We had fun sight-reading hymns neither of us have ever heard before...which is amazing considering we both come for hard core hymn backgrounds:)

Parachute

The day after arriving in NZ I woke up at 6am to meet the girls and go to Parachute music festival. Parachute is a huge Christian music festival in Hamilton, about an hour and a half away from Auckland. I went with friends: Joanne, Lynda, and Ruth from Redoubt North Church. We all had a wonderful time. We saw many bands and were able to be part of an evening worship cession that was really moving. It was so awesome to find myself in the middle of 30,000 worshipers of our Lord!

Isn't this sunset magnificent!? I love sunsets so much because I just feel they are such a beautiful gift.

This is a picture of Ruth Ziegler and Lynda Williams.

This is Joanne and me:)

I've tried to upload a video to this blog, but I don't know if it's going to work, we'll see. It is a video from the evening worship. I don't think there is anyway actually grasp the sound of all the worshipers singing to our Lord, but this gives you a small glimpse.

In NZ

I made it back to NZ on Saturday afternoon or Friday night depending on where you live:) However, my luggage did not arrive with me. Please pray that it comes in soon! It could be anywhere from L.A. to Fiji??? I also had a rough time getting back going through Fiji because they couldn't tell that my visa was still good and valid. I had to go through Fiji customs and immigration back through international check-in...have someone get on-line and look me up in the NZ immigration system and then I could go back through Fiji immigration and to my plane!! I was one stressed out woman with no sleep! When I arrived in AkL with no luggage, I wasn't shocked, it was just the icing on the cake. Anyway I'm here, I'm safe and God is good! He will provide. Yesterday I went to Parachute music festival for the day and had a huge day. I'll blog more about that later. I have some catching up to do here. Love you all and thanks for the prayers, keep them going up!

When saying goodbye becomes familiar...

I feel like I'm just saying, "see ya later"
I cry less frequently
I realize more and more what it means to pick up my cross
I truly don't know the next time I'll see my loved ones, but it's ok
God gives me strength to continue living in Him
I look forward in hope and great expectation for what God has ahead of me
I continue to pray for those I leave behind
I continue to pray for those ahead of me
I know my life is in the hands of the Creator and Lover of my soul
I say goodbye with peace in my heart

goodbye.

NZ, here I come.

He Who Promises is Faithful

Picture of me with my totally awesome cousins, Griffin and Tate Dekker

This past week God has challenged me to remember His faithfulness throughout Scripture and my own life. In fact, one night the Lord would not let me sleep until I spent a significant amount of time writing about His faithfulness throughout Hebrews 11. I am not going to share the entire thing on my blog but I am going to share bits and pieces of what the Lord reminded me of. First, I would suggest reading Hebrews 11. You will be inspired and you will be amazed at the displays of faith that were shown by those who have gone before us. Not only that, you will realize that their ability to live and act with such great faith is because they knew God was faithful to keep His word.

I must start right from the very beginning. Hebrews 11:1 Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see(NIV). Put another way, Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see(NLT). I don't often think about the fact that "my faith" is exactly that, FAITH. I know that Jesus is Lord because of faith. I know that the Bible is the True, Complete, Infallible Word of God because of Faith. I know that I am saved by Grace through Faith. I don't know about you, but I definitely don't think about this enough to give the appropriate thanks to God for allowing such faith to manifest itself in my heart.

Next, I'm going to jump down to verse 6, And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him(NLT). We can try to "do good" as much as we possibly can, but it will not please God unless our actions are done in faith. When God promised Abraham and Sarah that they would be parents and that Sarah would bare a son. They were blessed with the fulfillment of this promise because of faith in God.(vs. 11) They considered Him who promised to be faithful, and He was/still is.

Join with me in this faith walk. Life's journey will take us all in different places but He promises that all those that confess with their mouths and believe in their hearts will be saved(Romans 10:9) Look at the stories of God's servants that are recorded throughout the Word of God and be inspired to live by faith not by sight because our faith is in Him who is faithful.

The Call of a Lifetime

In my last post I mentioned that the Lord spoke to my heart in many ways during my week of travels. This post needs to be bathed in TONS of prayer. I have been seeking the Lord's leading/calling, talking with some wise people, planning to talk with some more wise people, reading, praying, and listening.

For a number of years I have felt the Lord prompting me to commit to serving Him in full-time ministry. I admit, I have not known exactly in what capacity God wanted me to serve. I know that He wanted me to finish my Music Education Degree, I know that He has led me to use that degree while serving Him in New Zealand. I know that right now I am living in obedience, however, I have a prompting in my heart that is telling me there is more to it.

I have spent the week reading the book, "The Call of a Lifetime" by Keith Drury. He is a religion professor and a very wise pastor at Indiana Wesleyan University. Through this book I have been challenged to look at the ways God has used my life circumstances and experiences to grow me and develop me into a woman after His own heart(this work is still in the process). I have been challenged to take a deeper look at my giftings and how God might want to use them to grow His Kingdom and benefit the body of Christ.

One particular chapter in the book looks at the ways God separated individuals for service along with their roles/responsibilities. I made a picture of these roles, see photo above, and then analyzed which categories I find myself falling into. I chose three.

1. Evangelist: spread the news of the Gospel. I have a huge passion for relational evangelism. I don't see myself as a preacher/evangelist but rather as one who intentionally makes Christ known in friendships and through interacting with other people.

2. Apostle: commissioned to make disciples. Last summer I spent time learning what it means to be a disciple of Christ and make disciples according to the Great Commission. I was challenged to make the Great Commission an integral part of my life. I love discipleship and the idea of teaching others how to live godly lives according to the model Christ set for us, which brings me to the third group...

3. Pastor-teacher: training and teaching God's people in godliness. I don't believe that I am perfect or that I make 100% holy choices in my life. I do know that life is a journey and that part of that journey involves God transforming us into the likeness of His Son, Jesus Christ. I do know that I enjoy leading small groups of people in studying God's Word and learning to become more and more like Him. I do know that I care deeply for people and their eternal well-being.

All of this is still in the processing stages and I would appreciate all the prayer I can get as God leads me to take further steps in following Him. By the end of the week I accepted Gods call and made myself available and willing to further my studies in order to serve Him in whatever capacity He would like me to. I do not know where or how this is all going to happen but I know that God is more than able to open doors as He pleases. I pray that I have the courage to walk through them in obedience. Please pray that God continues to confirm His calling on my life and lead me along one step at a time.

Week of Travels

Six days, four states, and at least 10 dear friends/influential people visited as well as First Baptist Church. Last Monday I set out on a week-long journey to see and spend quality time with some dear friends before heading back to New Zealand. Not only did God use this time to refresh my spirit with brothers and sisters in Christ, He used this time to speak to my heart on many occasions, which I will blog about separately.

Monday I headed down to IWU where I was able to connect with Becky. Becky was one of my campers while I was a counselor for a summer. We've been able to stay in touch and then finally re-connect this week after two and a half years. It was so great to hear about where God has taken her and what He is at work doing in her life. Monday evening I was able to connect with one of my friends who is headed back to New Zealand with Global Partners. It was encouraging to share dreams as we follow God leading. I also spent Tuesday at IWU and was able to drop in and see three influential profs as well as a chorale rehearsal(that was very good for my soul:). Tuesday, I stopped in to see some people at First Baptist Church and talked with some of the ladies who had just finished Bible study. Below is a picture of me and Kathleen, she was a dear friend and mentor while I was at IWU.

Wednesday I headed down to New Castle, IN to visit my best friend Vanessa and her husband Jason. Vanessa and I served on staff in Evans Hall together for two years and grew to be great friends and sisters in Christ. I cannot tell you how much of a blessing it was to spend time with them and have the opportunity to have some much needed heart to heart conversation with Vanessa.

Thursday, I made my way down to Springfield, TN (near Nashville) to visit my friend Amy, her husband Steve, and their absolutely precious son, Elijah. I spent Thursday night, all day Friday, and part of Saturday morning with them. What a blessing! Amy sets an amazing example of a God-fearing wife and mother and I feel so privileged to be her friend. God blessed our time together and we were able to share fun memories from the past as well as how God is working in our lives today.

Saturday, I headed back up to Marion to stay one more night at IWU. On my way back up to IN, I decided to stop at Mammoth Caves in Kentucky. I figured, why not? I haven't been there since I was probably ten and had some flexible time in my day. So I went on a cave tour. Below are a few pictures from that adventure.

Saturday night I stayed with the RD of Evans, Angie. She was my RD for my Sr. year at IWU and continues to be and encouragement in my life. God used Saturday night to really speak to my heart in many ways, which I'll explain later. On Sunday morning I had the privilege of singing and worshiping at First Baptist Church, where I attended during my years at IWU. It was wonderful to see the congregation and tell them of what God has been doing in New Zealand and in my life. I made it home Sunday night just in time to go to Mars Hill church for the evening service. This was a great conclusion to my week and an awesome opportunity to praise the Lord for all the blessings He so graciously had given me throughout the week.

Winter wonderland

Well this is mostly a picture post for my friends in New Zealand. I was able to catch up with the Benzies this past week and we went out to Ottawa Beach. Here are a few pictures from the lakeshore.

Sara and the Giants

This past Friday I went skiing with some of my cousins. We had a great time! Funny thing is, I'm the only girl that went, there aren't too many girls among us and the few others were busy at the time. The men in our family are all pretty tall, I however did not get the tall gene as you can see in the picture below:)

We had a very safe ski trip and nobody got too hurt. I will say that I played it safe and stayed on the green and blue hills. I was not about to break my neck on a black. Maybe someday I be confident enough to try one again, but I do recall the last time I did, I went most of the way down on my backside. Anyway, here's a glimpse of my winter activity.

Home for Christmas

I have absolutely loved being home for Christmas. I just feel so incredibly blessed to spend this time with my family and catch up with some friends. Thankfulness exudes out of me right now as I relish these moments. Like last night singing with my mom. Priceless. Both of us love to sing and my grandparents were over for dinner, so as my mom played the piano and sang with me, we were able to share that gift with them. It actually felt like a movie, I couldn't believe it was real. The living room is decorated for Christmas, my mom sitting a grand piano, me just behind her singing my heart out, the lighting was just right, and we both just sang for the Lord like we've been practicing our whole lives:) I loved it! I sometimes forget how much I enjoy singing, especially with my mom. It's like our voices fit together like a puzzle.

Today I was so incredibly blessed to spend the afternoon with my cousin Megan. We were able to share how the Lord has been working in our lives and enjoy a lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, followed by window shopping in downtown Holland. Loved it!

The day after I arrived back in Michigan we had Christmas parties with both sides of the family. Pretty crazy sequence of events for the first 24 hours being home, but it was good. I told endless stories, showed lots of pictures, and reconnected with family whom I haven't seen in eight months. Praise the Lord.

I hope to post some Christmas pictures soon and show my loved ones in New Zealand some of my loved ones in Michigan. Merry Christmas Everybody.

Evacuate the Building

This afternoon I went to one of my favorite coffee shops to do a little work. This coffee shop happens to be in a large shopping mall, New Zealand's largest actually. It's comparable to the Grandville mall in Michigan. Anyway, I had been there for about 45min when the fire alarm went off and the the loud speaker recording began telling everyone to evacuate the building using the nearest fire exit. It was weird really, nobody panicked, we all just kinda casually made our way out of the building. It was as if we all realized it wasn't really an emergency. However, this mall is huge and people were coming out of everywhere. People at the restaurants were annoyed that they had to get up and leave dinner, I'm sure the people in the cinemas all had to evacuate as well. I decided to go home and not wait for them to open the mall again, I didn't really want to stick around just in case there was an emergency somewhere. I'm thankful that I was able to get out without too many problems. Oh yeah, I finished school today, so I got to evacuate that building today as well.

Listen, Trust, Obey

God said, "Listen" and I said, "But how do I know it's You?"
God said, "Trust" and I said, "I do, but sometimes I doubt."
God said, "Obey" and I said, "Ok"

This is a true picture of me tonight. I'm wet, tired, unsure of how I just did what I did, thankful that I obeyed, reassured of God's love and presence, still wondering what's next.

I went jogging tonight and God brought me through a cycle of what I've experienced in New Zealand, almost like a debriefing of sorts. At the beginning of my run, I was strong. The weather was looking a bit gloomy but I was confident that if God had asked me to run with Him tonight, he would keep me going and keep me safe. At the beginning of my trip to New Zealand, I was covered in paperwork, I knew it was going to be difficult, the outlook was scary but exciting at the same time. I knew God was going to be with me and watch over me in everything. In the first quarter of my jog, it started to sprinkle rain. I thought, "I should turn back...I can't do this...I'm going to get sick...God are you sure we are supposed to jog tonight?" I was hearing lies all around me: you're going to fail, you'll never make it, you don't have what it takes, you're not strong enough, you're not fit enough, just give up and go home. In the first two months of being in New Zealand, I over-committed myself(surprise!). I tried too hard to do too much all at once. I let a few people down. I doubted my competence as a teacher. I heard the lies: You're not talented enough for this, you don't know how to communicate with this age-group, you don't understand the culture, you are never going to make it here.

The second quarter of my jog, I began to recognize the rhythm in my breathing. I began to focus, I was in stride. I put the lies behind me and listened for the Truth. Then I heard it: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you; and when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, the flames will not set you ablaze. (Is.43:2) You are my child and I'll love you always, just call out my name and I'll see you through. Yes, this is the voice of Truth! This is what I'm supposed to listen for, believe in, and trust. In the third and fourth month in New Zealand, I began to get a grip. I was figuring things out, learning how to prioritize, walking with Jesus full on, listening for the voice of God intently, seeking the Lord diligently. I was thriving in many areas. I was in stride.

The third quarter of my jog. I had made it past my destination and now I was in the first part of my jog back to the start. I couldn't believe I had made it as far as I did, but at the same time I didn't know how I was going to make it back to my car. The sky was getting darker. I heard: Keep going Sarajean...Keep going Sarajean...over and over, kind of the, "run Forest run!" concept(haha). I also head: It's going to get harder, but don't give up.TRUST. The rain started to come down. In the fifth and sixth months of being in New Zealand, I was still in go mode. I was facing some challenges but I wasn't worried about them, I was too busy worrying about the what I saw coming later. I took a holiday, plugged on through school, enjoyed church/ministry. I kept going.

In the final quarter of my jog, the rain poured down and the wind picked up. I wanted to quit so bad. I thought it would be so much easier if I just stopped and walked the rest of the way. But the voice didn't let up: keep going Sarajean, TRUST. You can make it, You can see the finish line, Keep your eyes fixed straight ahead. I made it to the end, stretched out, wiped the water off my face and got in my car. Now, in the last bit of my current time in New Zealand, There have been days I wanted to quit, life is challenging, I know my goal, I need to keep my eyes fixed on the finish-line...that being Christ, not my last day of school. I have four days before I return home to the States for a bit and the rest of my life to Listen, Trust, and Obey the One who called me by name and sustains me in Joy and Trial.

Christmas in New Zealand

Christmas in New Zealand is in the summertime!! Yay! I am finally enjoying summer after going through two winters in a row. Christmas in New Zealand means concerts in the park, picnics at the beach, and light walks. Because the weather is gorgeous we walk through through the sub-divisions to see the lights instead of driving through. Granted, not as many people decorate with lights like we do in the states, but those that do, go all out. The Redoubt North youth and other members of the church went for some light walks in different parts of town last night. We had heaps of fun.

Christmas in the park is also an annual tradition. People fill the Auckland Domain park for picnics and a huge Christmas concert in the park. That took place last weekend. I went with my friend Sarah and we enjoyed singing carols, and listening to some really fun music. Last week was also the, "Town Called Christmas" event as Cession that I've posted about previously.

Tonight was the Greenhithe Carols Sing. Shore Grace put on a Christmas celebration of singing to celebrate the Birth of Christ and tell the story of His birth. The Fijian Wesleyan Church came along and sang some beautiful music, the Grace kids did a short play, and Julia, Ruth, Sasha, and I, from Redoubt North sang, "Mary's Boy Child." I played the ukulele as our accompaniment:) It was truly a Kiwi Christmas Celebration.

I have one more week left in New Zealand before I go the the States for a bit. I have really enjoyed celebrating Christmas Kiwi style for the past couple of weeks, but I am definitely looking forward to spend Christmas with my family and friends back in Michigan. Besides, then I can sing songs like, "White Christmas" and "Frosty the Snowman" and it actually is cold, snowy, and white:)

Starving

Recently I have been starving, not physically, but spiritually. I need more of God's Word, more of God's Spirit, more God and less me. Whenever I come up to a deadline, I get stressed out. I'm not sure why but sometimes I work really well under pressure and other times I freeze and feel trapped. Right now I seriously starving for God to step in and take over again. At some point in the past few months I must have tried to take back control of parts of my life. I am now reaping that in frustration. I have loads of work to do and I am trying not to freeze. I am trying to hand it over to God and just ask for strength, believing and knowing He will give it freely. Earlier this week God spoke a very humbling and special truth into my life. I felt God prompting me to pick up His Word and read a chapter out of Matthew. That particular passage reminded me how Jesus called and chose His disciples. I also remembered that Jesus continued to teach them how to live like, act like, teach like, be like Himself every day and the disciples still made mistakes. However, Jesus didn't give up on them, He rebuked, forgave, and loved them. Praise the Lord! Jesus is not giving up on me, He rebuked, forgave, and now is loving me, in order to draw me to Himself.

posts coming

Honestly, I really want to update my blog...I have two really good posts brewing. However, I have like zippo, zero, nadda, no time. I have like five minute literally before I have to be out the door and my list for the day is only have done. I also recieved an e-mail from my beloved mother informing me of what is all happening in the first 48 hours of time in the states, can I just say, Yikes! Ok, I need to finish my day. Hopefully I will get to update soon. For right now the song, "Running Just to Catch Myself" by Mark Schultz really sums up my life.

Two Kiwi Experiences

I think I shared a bit of my blueberry muffin with a bird yesterday. I was enjoying some reading and journaling. I went to get my drink from the counter and as I turned to go back to my seat a bird flew away from my table. It was a small bird, kinda cute actually...but birds aren't supposed to be inside. However, I think this little bird lives just outside Starbucks because he is a frequent diner and even ventures inside every so often. I've seen him here a few times now, but I don't usually share with him, until yesterday. After my time of reflecting, I went down to the water for a walk and to watch the sail boats. Auckland is the city of sails. I love watching and listening to the water.

Today I went to the Otara Market. Talk about a bit overwhelming! It's a huge Polynesian market that sells almost everything you could imagine. It was a good kiwi experience. In fact markets are pretty common here, usually on Saturday and Sunday, you can find a market in a few parts of town. I had fun walking through and picking up a few Christmas gifts along the way.

See the Nations Worship

This song has blessed my life today. It truly speaks the desire of my heart to see the nations worship the Lord. This is something the that has been impressed on my heart over and over again since being called and coming to New Zealand. This song comes from a CD titled, "Voices of the Faithful," unfortunately, I'm not sure who is performing this song, but I found myself belting it out in true form this afternoon.

Our heart, our desire is to see the nations worship.
Our cry, our prayer is to sing your praise to the ends of the earth.
That with one mighty voice, every tribe and tongue rejoices.
Our heart and our desire is to see the nations worship You.

Heavenly Father, your mercy showers down upon all people,
every race upon this earth.
May your Spirit pierce the darkness, break the chains of death upon us.
Let us rise is honest worship, to declare your matchless Word.

Our heart, our desire is to see the nations worship.
Our cry, our prayer is to sing your praise to the ends of the earth.
That with one mighty voice, every tribe and tongue rejoices.
Our heart and our desire is to see the nations worship You.

There is no power, that for one hour, can withstand the greatness
of your Word on tongues of faith.
So we're bold in intercession, claiming all of your possession,
praying now that every heart will bow before you now in praise.

Our heart, our desire is to see the nations worship.
Our cry, our prayer is to sing your praise to the ends of the earth.
That with one mighty voice, every tribe and tongue rejoices.
Our heart and our desire is to see the nations worship You.

A Town Called Christmas

This past weekend has been a full one again, but always filled with joy and blessings. Saturday was the first "Town Called Christmas" at Cession Community. This was a family outreach designed to bring in families who might not otherwise get connected with a church. The members of the small groups worked together to create a miniature Christmas town.

Everyone worked hard and long to put this event together, but it was completely worth all the work. There were 120 kids that came along with 60 adults, not including those who were working the Christmas town. God is so awesome and it was such a blessing to see so many people come and experience part of the joy of Christmas. I think my favorite part of the town was Snowflake St.

The girls small group was in charge of the Christmas Cafe. We made hundreds of Chrissie biscuits(Christmas cookies) and decorated the kitchen as a Christmas Cafe. I'll have to get some better pics of this from one of the other girls because mine didn't turn out really well. But my favorite part of the cafe was, The "knight" before Christmas. There is great big silver Knight bolted to the wall that we had to somehow work into the Christmas decorations.

There were two things that made me laugh over and over all day...The first was Brett Jones(the pastor) who dressed up as a singing, ukulele playing elf and greeted all the visitors with a slightly dodgy song. The other was the Christmas music we were listening to in the Cafe. It was sunny and about 75 outside and we were singing and dancing to "The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow..." Let's be honest, I kept thinking: this is nuts! it is not snowing, nor is the weather frightful...nor is it going to snow...why are we singing this? We need some new Christmas music for the Southern hemisphere! Maybe I'll write some:)
